What exactly is the Windows Registry ?
|
| The Windows registry is a directory which stores settings and options for the operating system
of all Microsoft Windows platforms. This directory contains information for all the hardware,
software and user settings on your computer and is the engine behind how
your computer works & performs.. |
|
My Computer is running slower than before - Why is
this ? |
There are many reasons as to
why this is, some of which could be -
(a) You could have a virus, sypware, adware or some type of trojan on
your computer. If you have been surfing the net or even if you are just
downloading / reading your email these parasites could have been
installed on your computer without you even knowing it. You can check
this by using a free scan of a reputable anti-virus and anti-spyware
products that are available online.
(b) You have uninstalled some applications / games on your computer that
leave redundant entries in your the registry
(c) You have many programs that run on startup - The better
performing registry cleaning tools will have an add remove program
manager that will allow you to remove these and reduce boot up time
considerably. See our comparison guide for full details.
(d) Your registry has become corrupt - This can happen overtime even if
you don't surf the net. The best thing to do is run a free scan from a
reputable registry repair tool ( see our registry repair comparison list
for details on this ) to find out the exact problems that your registry
may have. |

| Can I fix these Windows
Registry Problems myself ? |
| As we stated above we would
not recommend you modifying your registry unless you are 100%
comfortable and confident with what you are doing. Please remember that
the slightest change not matter how small carries a risk and could
potentially render your computer un-usable. If you want to go down this
route please ensure to back up your registry via the control panel so at
least then you can use the " system restore " ( only
available on windows 2000 or newer operating systems ) option to restore
your registry to a working order |
